Pastoral Care & Outreach

The ministry of pastoral care is a vital part of our life as a community of faith. As the Body of Christ, all members are important and needed, and what happens to one part, affects all of us as a whole. If one member suffers the loss of a loved one, we all share in mourning. If another member is sick and in the hospital, we all pray for their healing. And if anyone is not able to leave their home, we are not quite whole because of their absence in our life of worship.

We are repeatedly told in the Gospels to seek out the lost, visit the sick, the homebound and those imprisoned, feed the hungry and clothe the naked. Likewise, we are reminded by St. Teresa of Avila that “Christ has no body but yours, no hands, no feet on earth but yours, yours are the eyes with which he looks Compassion on this world, yours are the feet with which he walks to do good, yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.”

In doing the work of Christ, we encounter Christ.

Thus in our ministries of care to the sick, homebound and those in the nursing homes we seek out the lost and isolated of our community. Our presence reminds them that they are not alone, and that they are important to us as the Body of Christ.

Our ministries of outreach, to those within our faith community of St. Margaret Mary and beyond to our larger community, are very concretely the way in which we reveal Christ’s presence in the world; through our hands, feet, and hearts of compassion. The ways in which we do this are as varied and diverse as the people through whom God works. In looking at the list of committees under Service, it is evident that we are very blessed with many hearts and hands.
