It is imperative that we begin and end this sign-up process before the next school year begins for numerous reasons. Several sports begin before school actually begins and in order to appropriately prepare for these sports we must know number of athletes participating and coaching availability. We must procure uniforms and make other necessary preparations prior to the beginning of school. **If you have any questions or need any more info. Please check out the CSAA website at www.loucsaa.org or contact one of the Athletic Directors.
Volleyball: Volleyball tryouts for the girls will take place the last week in July (July 28-31st). Times and dates for individual age groups will be determined at a later date once numbers and coaches are determined. Please plan vacations accordingly. **On a side note: Please note that if your child is entering Grades 3 through 8 and wants her ears pierced, it is imperative that she not get her ears pierced the week before tryouts or during the season. They are not allowed to wear earrings during volleyball games and this poses a hardship for those girls who get their ears pierced either just before the season or during the season because they will have to remove their earrings and thus their holes could close up. Please be aware of this and plan accordingly.
Young Girls Volleyball League: (Formerly called Volleyball Clinic) For Girls in Grades 1 and 2. This league consists of weekend game play with limited instruction. The girls will actually be put on teams which will play other schools. There are generally two games each weekend with instruction during the games. We have very limited practice space/times for these girls. It is not really an instructional clinic and thus the name change. Last years league had 20 teams playing two games each weekend for 7 weekends (13-14 games).
Football: New this year, we will have tackle football for boys in Grades 3 and 4. There will be a mandatory meeting/fitting of all interested ¾ Grade boys and their parents on May 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the gym. Boys tackle football generally starts August 1, dependant upon weather conditions. They will start their first two week without pads but they may be asked to participate in “7 on 7 Passing tournaments” in the last two weeks of July. Please plan vacations accordingly. Football is very time intensive: with practices four (4) nights a week pre-season and then three school nights (sometimes four depending on scrimmages) and then Saturday morning practice and Sunday games. Please have this in mind when you make your decisions.
Flag Football and K-2 Soccer: Practices for these sports can begin before the beginning of school and sometimes do based upon each individual coach. 3rd and 4th Grade flag football starts around the 2nd or 3rd week in August. There are probable conflicts of both games and practice times between 1/ 2 soccer and 1/ 2 flag football, please be aware of this if you choose to sign your child up for both sports.
Cross Country: Cross country can sometimes conflict with other sports. It involves running, en masse, across a cross country grass course (as opposed to a hard track). The kids run anywhere from a ½ mile to a mile and a half, depending on their age and grade level. There are several meets and running opportunities.
Cheerleading: We have spirit cheer for grades 3-8. These girls are split into teams that cheer at the football games. Competitive cheer involves a bigger commitment where the girls learn complex routines and compete in cheer competitions against other schools and teams. Competitive cheer lasts into late February.
