Join us as we read and reflect upon one great Catholic book a month. Some books will inspire us, some selections will challenge us to live our faith as believing Catholics. We meet on the third Thursday evening of the month at 7:00 pm in Meeting Room C. Reservations are requested so ample refreshments and materials are available. Please contact the chairperson for a list of books and more information.
August 19th – Book Club/Movie Night
We will be watching Dead Man Walking (1995) featuring Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn, based on Sr. Helen Prejean’s book, Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty in the United States.
See the info at: The Church’s Anti-Death Penalty Position | USCCB. The new evangelization calls for followers of Christ who are unconditionally pro-life: who will proclaim, celebrate and serve the Gospel of life in every situation. A sign of hope is the increasing recognition that the dignity of human life must never be taken away, even in the case of someone who has done great evil… I renew the appeal I made… for a consensus to end the death penalty, which is both cruel and unnecessary.—Pope John Paul II Papal Mass, St. Louis, Missouri, January 27, 1999
