The St. Margaret Mary Athletics Ministry has an integral role to play in forming youth to be disciples of Christ. The Catholic Church has long recognized the intrinsic value of sport in developing the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual aspects of the person. As Pope Benedict XVI stated, “Through sports, the ecclesial community contributes to the formation of youth, providing a suitable environment for their human and spiritual growth.” Aside from our parish school, our athletics ministry is the next largest ministry to youth in the parish. As a ministry of the parish, we want to ensure that our coaches and volunteers are equipped not just to run practices and play games, but to minister to the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs of our athletes. To be a coach or athletic administrator at a Catholic parish is to be a youth minister. Time Commitment: Varies by sport and season.
