VENTUS – May 3 “We do not pretend that life is all beauty. We are aware of darkness and sin, of poverty and pain. But we know Jesus has conquered sin and passed through his own pain to the glory of the Resurrection. And we live in the light of his Paschal Mystery – the mystery of his Death and Resurrection. ‘We are an Easter People and Alleluia is our song!’” – St. John Paul II I have written a new Mass Setting for the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Community and it will be introduced at the end of May as we prepare to enter into a new season of Ordinary Time this summer. Over the past year I’ve been trying to find the perfect Mass setting to switch to for Ordinary Time, and I haven’t found one that fit all my requirements for SMM. Click here to access recordings. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION VERSES: If you have any difficulty understanding how to read/sing the Gospel Acclamation Verses for each week, just let me know and I’ll be happy to explain it. I will provide PDFs and recordings for each week here. SATB parts will be available no later than June 1st, prior to ENSEMBLE on June 18th.
Apr 30 @ 12pm May 14 @ Sat 5pm w/ SMM Singers Musicians who sing or accompany music during the funeral Mass. I can’t tell you how many times families have thanked me for the choir being present (even if only three of our choir members could attend! Your voice of support matters and sung prayers are needed during the liturgy). VENTUS Vespers @ 6:15pm CLICK HERE FOR CANTOR/ACCOMPANIST SCHEDULE MAY-JULY We will typically use the metered version of the LaRosa psalms, unless otherwise noted on the music plans. Also, some of her psalms have a sung “coda/ending”, which can be omitted…our practice will be to end the refrain as it is sung throughout the Responsorial Psalm, no extra phrases added. Many LaRosa psalms have been updated since last year, please download the most recent version from the shared folder. In the back room behind the organ I have the following resources available: I try my best to maintain a printed copy of any sheet music not in those resources in the binder in the piano bench. RSVP HERE: https://tinyurl.com/smmdinner Our annual End of the Season Music Ministry Dinner will be May 23rd at 6pm. All music ministers from SMM and their families are invited, but RSVPs are needed by May 10th! If you made it this far in the newsletter, send Holly a picture of your favorite cartoon character to make her smile. She’ll stop whatever she is doing and offer a up a “Glory Be” in thanksgiving for all the wondrous things God has done.

All Holy Men and Women, pray for us.
– must sound good on the organ
– must sound good with piano/guitar/drums
– must sound good with both single cantor and vocal ensemble
– MUST be easily singable for the assembly
– not extra lengthy with an excess of repeated text – after all, it’s Ordinary Time, the Gloria does not need to be 5 minutes long…
So one day last summer, I started randomly singing the Mass parts to a familiar hymn tune, NICAEA, (Holy, Holy, Holy) and I pursued it, and voila, I wrote a Mass Setting (thank you Holy Spirit for the inspiration).
There hasn’t been one published for St Margaret Mary, so I’ve named it, dedicated it, and published it as the “Mass of St Margaret Mary” (for our Parish).
It’s been through many reviewers and edits to reach this point, including members of our parish musicians, Archdiocesan music directors, the USCCB music publication committee, and some of my national music composer friends.
